Exhibitions and events: the marble is leader

Capitolium. The oldest examples of the use of Botticino Classico marble.

CAPITOLIUM. UNO DEGLI ESEMPI PIÙ ANTICHI DELL'USO DEL BOTTICINO CLASSICO.

In the archeological area located in the center of Brescia the oldest and most representative structures of the ancient Roman city are still visible. On the north side of the Piazza del Foro are the remains of the Capitolium (Capitoline Temple), a hexastyle temple built in 73 AD under the Emperor Vespasian, perhaps to commemorate a military victory.

It is the most important relic of Roman Brixia and one of the oldest examples of the use of Botticino Classico marble in a monumental building.

The San Salvatore – Santa Giulia monastic complex and the Capitolium archaeological area are included in the Serial Site “Longobards inItaly. Places of the power (568-774 AD)” which groups together the most important Lombard monumental remains to be found on Italian soil and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 2011.

In 1998 the archaeological area of the Capitolium was affected by an important organic project of archaeological and architectural recovery that led to the reopening of the Capitoline Temple in 2013.

The video of TurismoBrescia, made by Giulia Tibaldi and Giordano Garosio of Fox Eating Skyr for the reopening of the Capitoline temple, shows the work of recovery of this marvelous Temple of the Roman Brixia.
